Head of Organizing, Europe
About ICAW: The International Council for Animal Welfare is a campaigning organization that advocates for improved animal welfare standards in the supply chains of the world's largest food companies. We were founded in September 2024 and are a small team of highly experienced, dedicated animal advocates. We focus solely on high impact, tractable issues that will reduce the greatest amount of suffering for farmed animals globally. The exclusive focus of our organization is running and developing creative campaigns and tactics to become maximally effective at influencing food companies to make a positive change for animals. Every team member is expected to be a motivated contributor to achieving our ambitious goals.
The Role: We are hiring a Head of Organizing, Europe to develop and execute grassroots campaign strategy for Europe-based campaign targets. This position will work closely with the campaign leads at ICAW, providing strategic guidance on how to utilize grassroots networks and volunteers to leverage people power to influence food companies. The role will include organizing disruptive public demonstrations and stunts, networking with local activist groups, and conducting deep research into our corporate targets. ICAW is highly focused on developing innovative campaign strategies and tactics and the ideal candidate is someone who can think outside of the box to pressure companies through grassroots actions. This is a remote, highly self-directed role that will require frequent travel throughout the year both domestically and internationally and does not involve managing direct reports. This role is limited to applicants living in and able to work in the UK.
Job responsibilities:
Determine, develop and execute grassroots campaign strategy for Europe-based campaign targets
Bring disruptive and creative grassroots organizing tactics to ICAW’s corporate animal welfare campaigns
Conduct deep research into campaign targets
Work with ICAW team members to create campaign assets for grassroots actions, coordinate digital with in person actions, determine logistical needs for in person actions, and assess risk for on the ground actions
Build relationships with local animal activist groups and maintain a network of engaged volunteers throughout continental Europe and the UK
Keep up to date on grassroots tactics other campaigning organizations are utilizing
Represent ICAW at movement conferences and to external stakeholders
Frequent travel to specific locations throughout continental Europe and the UK to execute actions for campaigns
Salary: The salary for this position is dependent on relevant experience, especially related to grassroots organizing, corporate campaigns and animal advocacy. The salary range is £31,000 - £63,000.
